With a felony charge being handed down Tuesday, Kingfisher Public Schools has suspended head football coach Jeff Myers indefinitely while the legal process plays out.

“The district has placed Mr. Myers on administrative leave pending the outcome of this legal matter,” Superintendent David Glover said in a statement to the Times & Free Press on Wednesday. “Because this is a personnel issue, I am unable to provide additional information at this time.

“Nothing is more important to Kingfisher Public Schools than the safety, health and well-being of our students. As a school district, we reaffirm our commitment to provide a welcoming, respectful and safe environment for every student and student-athlete.”

Myers was charged with child neglect by District Attorney Mike Fields’ office after a lengthy investigation that stemmed from allegations by a former player.

That player, Mason Mecklenburg, has a civil lawsuit pending against Myers, other current and former KHS football coaches, and the school district.

Glover said Stan Blundell, a longtime KHS football assistant, will be the interim head coach. All other coaching staff members remain in place.

Kingfisher’s next game is Thursday when it hosts McLoud.

Glover addressed the football team members and coaching staff Wednesday morning.

As a result of the suspension, Glover said Myers will not take part in football activities or his teaching duties at the school.
