KPS school board sets election to fill seat; Franks to refile
The Kingfisher Board of Education worked through a brief agenda Monday night for its November regular meeting.
The 25-minute gathering included approving a resolution that calls for an election early next year to fill board seat No. 5.
That seat is currently held by Carly Franks, board president, whose term is expiring.
Franks told the Times & Free Press she plans to file for candidacy again.
The filing period is Dec. 2-4 at the Kingfisher County Courthouse.
If three or more candidates file, there will be a runoff election Feb. 11, 2020, from which the top two vote getters will be placed on the ballot for the general election.
The vote will be held April 7, 2020.
As is standard procedure, the board voted to request closing precincts with 100 or fewer registered voters for the school board election.
That’s five precincts within the Kingfisher Public School District: 105, 106, 204, 303 and 306.
Precincts 106, 204 and 306 have no registered voters. The other two have a combined 33.
One resignation was received and approved by the board. Jennifer Isom, a teacher’s aide at Gilmour Elementary School, tendered that resignation.
Board members viewed some preliminary renderings of the new seventh and eighth grade center.
In his superintendent’s report, Jason Sternberger said “absolutely nothing” was “set in stone” as far as the renderings go.
“This could change completely when we get our next round,” Sternberger said.
The board will issue bids for the new parking lot west of the high school, which is the first phase of the project, later this month.
Sternberger also told the board the new girls’ athletic center being built between the football and softball fields should be “fi nished in a couple of weeks.”
Once the keys are turned over to the district, fi nishing touches such as lockers, flooring, mirrors for the cheerleading portion and other amenities will be added, he said.
In new business, the board approved a fundraiser for the eighth grade. A portion of sales at Eischen’s in Okarche on Nov. 19 will benefit the class.
