Localized downpours on the last day of the month offered only partial redemption for an otherwise bone dry September.

While some areas of the county received a pounding rain that caused temporary flash flooding and road closures, only a smattering of moisture fell elsewhere.

Kingfisher Weather Observer Steve Loftis recorded a total of 3.93 inches from a thunderstorm that dumped the moisture in a short time span between 8 and 10 a.m.Thursday, causing much of the rain to run off fields.

Some streets in Kingfisher were closed by runoff water during the deluge, including U.S. 81 at the north side of Kingfisher and the railroad underpass on S.H. 33 in east Kingfisher.

A general rain is needed to allow small grain producers to begin fall seeding operations as well as boost summer crops toward harvest.

The forecast called for hope of additional moisture Friday night and into Saturday morning.

Other local rainfall amounts reported included four inches at the Tom Arms residence three miles west of Kingfisher, 2.8 inches at the Mike and Donna Reid residence 4.5 miles southwest of Kingfisher, and 2.5 inches at the Janet Chlouber residence six miles west of Kingfisher.

Norman Schoelen recorded 4.25 inches near the school track in southwest Kingfisher.

Additionally Okarche Grain and Feed received reports of .75 inch from several locations west of Okarche, as did the Wheeler Brothers Elevator at Omega. Okarche CHS Elevator recorded a half inch. CHS Elevator at Hennessey recorded only .2 inch.

Only light showers were reported at the Rick and Robin Johnston residence, northwest of Dover and the Donald and Cathy Schweitzer residence west of Omega. Cashion Grain and Feed elevator recorded .8 inch.

The Mesonet site at the Mueggenborg farm west of Kingfisher reported a 3.68 inch measurement Friday morning.
