Some of Kingfisher artist Kathy Leitner’s work was selected to be featured in a book and is currently being exhibited at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

Leitner was among those selected to be a part of Artster Oklahoma, which is both a book and an exhibit, the opening for which was held Feb. 21.

Among those attending the opening with Leitner and her family were Valerie Johnson and Joyce Bollenbach of Kingfisher.

The term “Artster” refers to an individual who “chooses a culturally rich lifestyle and maintains a great admiration for various forms of art,” according to a release from the exhibit’s organizers.

“Informed and typically altruistic in nature, this individual believes in the power of creative appreciation and collaboration as a means to benefit humanity,” the release said.

Michelle Lavasque and Espanta Steppe set out to find and connect with other Oklahoma artists, artisans and craftsmen, which led to this exhibit.

Usually the artist’s work is on exhibit with only a brief glance at the artists themselves. In this exhibit, the artists are the central focus.

They are chronicled at work in their studios through photographs and narratives in the book Artster Okahoma.

Selected photographs from the book and individual artists’ work are on exhibit until May 19 in the Tulsa World/Lorton Family gallery located on the third floor of the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.

“I feel very fortunate to have been included in the Artster Exhibit,” Leitner said. “It is truly an honor to have been asked by Michelle and Espanta to participate and to hang my work with such a talented group of artists and artisans at the Oklahoma Hall of Fame.”

Leitner’s selected piece is “Jenna and Sorrely… Pullin’ Their Weight.”

The Okahoma Hall of Fame/Gaylord Picken Museum is located at 1400 Classen Drive, Oklahoma City.
