Lions updated on new business

By

Kaily Ball, left, of August Pharms, a medical cannabis dispensary recently opened just outside of Kingfisher, told Kingfisher Lions Club members and guests that the state’s medical marijuana industry is still in its infancy. For that reason, she said, there are no track-record projections to present as yet, but she said annual tax revenue for the cannabis industry in the state was currently $7,871,477. And to date, there are 205,000 patients being served in the state by approximately 2,000 licensed caregivers and over 9,000 businesses. She said August Pharms dispenses through prescriptions only, and that over 60 percent of their customers were 65 years or older and approximately 30 percent of all patients are being prescribed medical marijuana for alleviation of pain related to cancer. Kingfisher Lions Club member Chase Farrar, right, arranged for the presentation. Also attending was Ball’s mother, Robin Wolf, who is a partner in the business, which is operated on State Highway 33, approximately one mile east of Kingfisher. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
