Local Altrua Club met in February

By

The Altrua Club met Feb. 19 at the Chisholm Trail Museum in Kingfisher.

President Cheryl Wheelbarger conducted the meeting and served as hostess.

Members present were Martha Burditt, Carolyn Flood, Dana Golbek, Jneanne Kadavy, Jeanette Kloeppel, Terri Peck, Sue Robinson, Jowanna Sisk, Julie Storm and Wheelbarger.

The program was given by Wheelbarger’s brother, Rodney Beese.

Beese is a member of the group Bugles Across America, which was founded in 2000 by Tom Day.

When Congress passed legislation that veterans have the right to have at least two uniformed military persons to fold the flag and play “Taps” on a CD player, Bugles Across America was founded to take this a step further to offer a live rendition of “Taps” by a real bugler, he said.

The organization now has more than 4,000 volunteers located in all 50 states.

In addition to the information about the organization, Beese spoke about the history of the bugle and the playing of “Taps.”

The club will not meet in March or April.
