Local man facing child abuse charge

By

A Kingfisher man was released from jail on his own recognizance April 24 after allegedly pleading not guilty to a charge of felony child abuse in Kingfisher County District Court.

According to an affidavit signed by Kingfisher Police Capt. Travis Gray, Monte Waterhouse, 36, allegedly sat on the head of a 6-year-old child, grabbed her by the abdomen and pulled her arm during an incident at a relative’s home April 14.

Waterhouse and his family had been staying with relatives while their home was being renovated, according to the affidavit.

Police allegedly observed marks on the left and right side of the child’s torso, near her rib cage.

The child is diagnosed with autism and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder and Waterhouse “got frustrated and was at the end of his rope,” another relative told police, according to the affidavit.

Waterhouse is scheduled to return to court at 1:30 p.m. May 28.

If convicted, he faces up to life in prison and-or a $500-5,000 fine, according to court documents.
