Local Meals on Wheels benefits from Ovintiv donation
Ovintiv Inc. last week announced plans to contribute $150,000 to charitable and community organizations and agencies providing emergency food relief and food security across the communities where it operates.
The COVID-19 pandemic has created an increased demand for food provisions and also has disrupted the food supply chain –making it difficult for the families most at risk to have access to nourishing meals.
Recognizing the intense pressure the pandemic is placing on the economy and communities, Ovintiv has contributed a combined investment of $35,000 to local food relief organizations in Oklahoma.
These include:
• Regional Food Bank of Oklahoma;
• Kingfisher Meals on Wheels;
• Southern Oklahoma Nutrition Center;
• Dibble Senior Citizen Center.
“Thank you so much for your donation to the Kingfisher Meals on Wheels program,” said Sheila Thomas, president of the board. “With this donation, we will be able to continue serving the citizens of our communities a hot meal. Our mission is to provide a low-cost nutritional meal to the homebound and disabled citizens of our communities. With the COVID-19 pandemic, our patrons’ numbers have increased and more people are needing assistance.”
“The Regional Food Bank is immensely grateful for the generous support provided by Ovintiv,” said Tessa Ashoff, manager of grants and foundations for the Regional Food Bank.
“Over the past several weeks, the need for emergency food assistance has dramatically increased due to the economic impacts of COVID-19. Support provided by Ovintiv will ensure that nutritious food is provided to those seeking assistance during this unprecedented time.”
Engaging with the community and supporting meaningful causes that provide benefits to the local population has been a long-standing tradition at Ovintiv, according to Cindy Hassler, director of communications.
“The company’s community investment is focused on three core areas: environment, health and safety, community life and education,” she said. “These core areas align with the company’s values and promote the long-term sustainability and growth of its operations and surrounding communities.”
