Loftis reports on rising COVID-19 cases

Coronavirus continues to increase in Kingfisher County.

County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis related at Monday’s meeting of the Kingfisher County commissioners that the number of COVID-19 active cases had risen by eight since last week’s meeting, from 151 to 159.

Active cases as of Monday by community included: Cashion 23 (down 11), Dover 13 (up three), Hennessey 47 (up 12), Kingfisher 56 (up 11), Loyal two (unchanged), Okarche 17 (down six) and Omega one (down one).

Loftis also reported that a new federal program has been approved providing 100 % reimbursable purchase of Personal Protective Equipment for the county.

All paperwork has to be submitted by Dec. 18.

Loftis said he has already submitted a notice to proceed on the program.

In the business meeting, commissioners approved the six-month bid list for road and bridge materials and commercial roadway work compiled lowest to highest, which was opened last week. The list will go into effect on Jan. 1.

On motion of District 1 Commissioner Jeff Moss, commissioners approved the low bid of YellowHouse, $168,300, for a six-wheel drive diesel motor grader for District 1. Four bids were submitted on the grader, ranging to a high of $193,910.

Commissioners Ray Alan Shimanek, District 2, chairman, and Heath Dobrovolny, District 3, vice chairman, joined Moss in making the action unanimous.

Monthly reports of county offices and appropriations for the month of November, also received unanimous votes as did applications for three pipeline crossings of county roads by McDonald Land Services, two in District 2 and one in District 3A11 three of the water line applications are located in the same general area five miles south of Kingfisher and east of U.S. 81.

Others present at the meeting included County Clerk Jeannie Boevers, official minute clerk, County Engineer Nik Smith, County Pipeline Inspector Cody Murray, Brad Wittrock of Kingfisher, and Kelly Mull and Denise Massey who made a sales presentation on a sanitizing technique used in public buildings.
