Lofton to headline chamber banquet

Retired professional football player and Kingfisher High School graduate Curtis Lofton will be the featured speaker at this year’s Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce Banquet, March 8.

While attendance at the banquet is limited to chamber members and other invitees who have already RSVP’ed, the entire event, including Lofton’s speech and recognition of the Citizen and Volunteer of the Year, will be livestreamed at kingfishersports. tv, beginning at 6 p.m.

Lofton helped lead the Yellowjackets to the 3A state championship in 2003 and was named a Parade first team All-American, first-team coaches All-State and nominated as one of the top high school scholar-athletes in the state.

At the University of Oklahoma, Lofton earned first team AllBig 12 honors and was named Big 12 defensive player of the year and consensus all-American.

He was selected by the Atlanta Falcons as a second-round draft pick in the 2008 NFL draft and was a starter in his rookie 2008 season, earning rookie of the year honors.

Lofton signed with the New Orleans Saints in 2012 and then the Oakland Raiders in 2015.

He announced his retirement in September 2017 and has since completed his college degree at OU.

Social distancing guidelines are being observed at the banquet, which will be held at the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds Exhibit Building.

Masks are encouraged during a 30-minute networking opportunity that begins at 5:30 p.m. and cash prizes will be awarded for the best decorated masks.
