Man is arrested on murder complaint
Woman found deceased in motel room
A man was arrested Thursday night on a first-degree murder complaint after a woman’s body was found Thursday in a Kingfisher motel.
Arrested was Joseph Hayslip, 38, who listed Kingfisher as his residence on previous felony charges.
Hayslip was booked into Kingfisher County Criminal Justice Center after being interviewed by Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation special agents.
The OSBI Crime Scene Unit was called to the scene late Thursday afternoon by the Kingfisher Police Department after the body of a deceased woman was discovered at the Cattlemen’s Inn on West Broadway Avenue.
Once KPD officers were able to rule out a suicide and determined the injuries were consistent with homicide, they requested OSBI assistance.
KPD officers learned the deceased had been residing with Hayslip.
According to KPD Chief David Catron, officers quickly located Hayslip and detained him at the police station as the investigation unfolded.
That investigation included multiple search warrants that were executed Thursday evening and Hayslip was then interviewed by agents.
“Based on evidence and information obtained, Hayslip was arrested and booked,” according to Hunter McKee, OSBI public information officer.
“We appreciate the Kingfisher Police Department for their assistance in this case,” said McKee in the OSBI’s news release.
Catron said his department is appreciative of the necessary help OSBI provides.
“Without them and their equipment, we wouldn’t be able to do this type of work and process the scene,” Catron said. “This couldn’t be done without them.”
The name of the deceased woman still was not released at press time.
McKee said the OSBI was still going through necessary steps to inform family members and process other information.
Hayslip was already facing a pair of felony charges in Kingfisher County.
He was charged in June with possession of a stolen vehicle and pleaded not guilty. His next scheduled court appearance was Aug. 8.
Hayslip was later charged with bringing contraband into a jail as well as a misdemeanor count of possession of controlled dangerous substance. According to court documents, methamphetamine was the alleged drug.
