Mellott returns to local clinic
Physician Assistant John Mellott, a former Kingfisher medical provider, is returning to the county as a part-time practitioner at Trail Creek Wellness Center.
Mellott graduated Brethren Christian High School in 1980, Orange Coast College in 1982 and University of California-Irvine in 1984.
He earned his Physician Assistant degree from the University of Oklahoma in 1990 and culminated his education with a master’s degree in public health in occupational medicine from OU in 1992.
Mellott is returning to family medicine in Kingfisher, reuniting with Phisican Assistant Bridget Keast and joining Rachel Cameron, APRN-CNP at Trail Creek Wellness Center.
He first became familiar with Kingfisher in 1989 as he did one of his PA school rotations with Keast.
He has worked in orthopedics with Dr. Stephen Gick, urology at OU Urology and Urology Associates, while also publishing articles in that fi eld.
Melott has worked in emergency medicine with hospitals in Shawnee, Sulphur, Kingfisher, and Mission Viejo, Calif.
He also worked many years in family medicine with Dr. Thomas Stough, Dr. Mark Gregory, Dr. James Gregory and Keast in Kingfisher and Okarche.
Mellott is the youngest of two children born to Jack and Sue Mellott from Fountain Valley, Calif. where he splits time each month, living in both California and Oklahoma.
He and his wife, Laura, have twin sons, Zach and John, who are juniors at OU, both studying medicine.
Zach is working to become a physician working in sports medicine, while John aspires to be a PA like his dad.
While the family lived in Kingfisher, Laura worked at a transcription business and then as bailiff for the late Associate District Judge Susie Pritchett.
She currently works at OU Health Sciences Center as a patient services representative in a pediatric specialty clinic.
While his sons were growing up, Mellott served as their American Youth Soccer Association soccer coach for 10 plus years, winning several local and area championships.
Mellott also has taught many piano students, while in college himself, and while living in southern California.
An accomplished piano player in his own right, Mellott was one of the 84 pianists performing in the opening ceremony for the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics.
He also was one of 50 pianists who played during the 1988 Super Bowl halftime show in San Diego, with a Radio City Music Hall Rockette dancing atop each piano.
When he is not traveling back and forth between California and Oklahoma, Mellott spends time in the gym and with his mixed breed Schnauzer/Yorkie, Lilly.
