Metal detector in use at county courthouse
Only west entrance is open for visitors
A metal detector has been placed in the Kingfisher County Courthouse, visitors learned last week.
The metal detector, recommended by the district attorney’s office and approved by the Board of County Commissioners, will require that no sharp metal objects, such as pocket knives, may be taken into the courthouse.
It was reported one courthouse visitor last week had to take his pocket knife back to his vehicle before being allowed in by Kingfisher County Sheriff’s Department deputies, who are on duty daily.
The metal detector is located at the west entrance of the courthouse, which will become the only access point for courthouse visitors.
Metal detectors have become commonplace in courthouses throughout the state in recent years.
