New due dates for Hennessey utilities part of administrator’s October report
Tiffany Rowen reported the payment due date for water, sewer and garbage customers in Hennessey was changed from the 15th to the 17th of each month.
The Hennessey town administrator made that note during her report at the Oct. 14 town trustees meeting.
( Editor’s note: For more from the Hennessey Town Trustees meeting on Oct. 14, see our Wednesday, Oct. 29, edition.)
Rowen said reminder notifications (phone and “sticker” notices at residence/business) are now made the day before services are disconnected and are appreciated by customers.
Also included in her report:
• 2024-25 yearly town audit was expected to be completed that week;
• No update on the state audit;
• Installation of all new water meters are expected to be completed “in a couple of weeks” and they’d been able to install about 100 a week. (Note: The town has 1,100 water customers, with 177 of them outside the town limits.)
• Swimming pool was painted.
Street Sweeper
No action was taken concerning the town’s 2000 model street sweeper and repairs didn’t appear to be an option.
Discussion included that the hydraulics are shot, the hopper is rusted out and it doesn’t keep the vacuum sealed, brakes are going out and the lights don’t work.
Local welders have repeatedly replaced hopper metal due to rust.
Contract sweeping each month would cost a little more than $5,000 a month for Main Street and a new unit would run about $205,000.
Pickleball Court at Boy Scout Park
Trustees agreed to research the cost to convert the old basketball court, or rebuild the surface, at the Boy Scout Park on Second Street for a pickleball court, or make it into a half basketball and half pickle ball court.
Discover Hennessey will make a community survey.
Dirt Work at Splash Pad
No action taken after a full day of rain showed no issues when inspected, but if an issue surfaces, any work required will be re-evaluated at that time.
