New head football coach’s contract approved by Hennessey board, two mid-school teachers hired

Hennessey head football coach Paul Hix’s 12-month contract as a teacher, athletic director and coach for $74,464 was approved in a special school board meeting at noon Monday.

Before hiring Hix, the board voted to make a change in the athletic/ activities director’s job description from an 11-month to a 12-month contract.

Frances J. (Miller) Streck of Hennessey and David Redus of Guthrie, were hired as middle school teachers. Streck will teach science and Redus will teach social studies and also coach football.

All were hired on temporary contracts.

Hix’s Contract

Hix, a certified teacher, also has a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice and a master’s in law, has a base pay of $53,464. His extra duty pay for coaching is $21,000 ($9,000, athletic director; $6,500 head high school football, $4,500 offensive coordinator and $1,000, assistant seventh and eighth grade football).

Hix joined the Eagles in April as head coach and athletic director after being the offensive coordinator at Midwest City High School for the past two years. He also coached at Moore, Stillwater, Bixby, Texas State University and Mannford.

All board members were present for the special meeting: President Patrick Griffin, Vice President Dr. James Matousek, Clerk Luke Lough, Joe Garrison and Cristopher Choate.

MS Science Teacher

Streck, a 2001 HHS grad, was hired on a temporary contract and will be on an emergency teaching certification, Superintendent Dr. Mike Woods told the board.

She has an associate’s in arts degree from Northern Oklahoma College, a secondary education in mathematics degree from OSU, and a bachelor of science funeral service degree from UCO.

She has worked at the Hennessey Farm Bureau office since 2013; NBS Data Services, 2011-13; Continental Resources, 2008-11, and Cordry-Gritz Funeral Home, 2006-present.

MS Social Studies/Coach

Redus was hired as a middle school social studies teacher and an offensive line coach for the HHS Eagles.

He graduated from Western Heights High School in 1986, and from UCO in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice.

He has been a history teacher and coach at Putnam City North High School since 2013; Putnam City High School, 2011-13; Deer Creek, 2010-11; Guthrie, 2000-10; Western Heights, 1999-00.
