No commissioner endorsement; ad clarification given

By

An ad published in the Sunday Times & Free Press by the Mike Dobrinski for House District 59 campaign included the official seal of the Kingfisher County Board of Commissioners among several logos next to the statement “Endorsed by Kingfisher County Leaders We Trust.”

Kingfisher County Commissioner Heath Dobrovolny, Dist. 3, contacted the Times & Free Press on Tuesday to report that the suggestion that the board of commissioners endorsed any candidate was inaccurate.

“It is not our policy or practice to endorse any candidate in any election,” Dobrovolny said. “That would not be appropriate for us to do as an elected public body.”

Mike Dobrinski, Okeene, said the board of county commissioner’s seal was “mistakenly included” and he called Dobrovolny to apologize to the board.

He also issued the following statement to voters, which will appear as an advertisement in Wednesday’s print and digital editions.

“My campaign staff prepared and submitted an ad last weekend that mistakenly included a logo representing the Kingfisher County Commissioners which did not endorse me.

“I understand the commissioners cannot endorse candidates and I have personally apologized to them. I am sorry to you voters as well for this error. There was no intentional misrepresentation.”

Dobrinski is running against Adam Masters of Kingfisher to replace longtime House District 59 legislator Mike Sanders in a race to be decided Tuesday in the Republican primary.

No Democrat filed for the seat.
