ODOT announces delayed construction start
Now it looks like mid-March before Kingfisher’s latest Oklahoma Department of Transportation construction project will begin, due to contractor scheduling.
Eastbound and westbound S.H. 33 (Broadway Avenue) will be narrowed and lanes shifted between U.S. 81 (Main Street) and Second Street in Kingfisher for a pavement rehabilitation project that was originally slated to begin Feb 10.
Additionally, Main Street will be intermittently narrowed between S.H. 33 and Sheridan Avenue, which will temporarily impact on-street parking on the west side of the courthouse and east side of BancFirst.
Work generally will occur from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday-Friday with some weekend closures as needed, ODOT said.
Motorists are advised to expect delays and congestion in the area during these times and plan extra travel time through the work zone.
For a maximum of 25 days, S.H. 33 will be closed completely at the underpass east of Main Street to allow for repaving under the railroad bridge.
ODOT advises motorists to start planning now to locate an alternate route.
While local drivers can take more convenient routes around the closure, ODOT’s detour for commercial truck traffic will be eastbound S.H. 33 to north-bound U.S. 81 to eastbound S.H. 51 to southbound S.H. 74 to eastbound S.H. 33. Westbound travelers may take northbound S.H. 74 to westbound S.H. 51 to southbound U.S. 81 to westbound S.H. 33.
The $1.3 million project was awarded by the Oklahoma Transportation Commission in June 2019 to Schiralli Construction Corp. of Wilson. The project is expected to completed by early summer 2020.
