The Okarche High School speech team completed qualifying competition by winning the 3A sweepstakes trophy recently at the Crescent High School Speech Tournament.

OHS had six students compete in the last qualifying tournament of the year.

Senior Rob Bomhoff was tournament runner-up in dramatic interp and poetry. Fellow senior Sara Bomhoff brought home the third-place medals in both poetry and monologue, and Jaxcey Beauchamp, a third senior, was tournament champion in monologue and a finalist in dramatic interp.

The junior team of Mikaila Kraus and Jacilyn Pannell was first in dramatic duet; Pannell also was a finalist in humorous interp.

OHS freshman McKenzie Stewart placed first in both standard oratory and prose.

The team begins preparing now for the regional speech tournament to be held at SWOSU March 15-16.
