Okarche’s Bomhoffs presented Awards for Arts Excellence honor
Katie and Rob Bomhoff of Okarche High School joined 23 other drama and theatre students across Oklahoma as 2019 recipients of the State Superintendent’s Award for Arts Excellence.
A total of 125 Oklahoma student artists were honored for their work in the areas of dance, drama/ theatre, instrumental music, piano, visual art, and vocal music.
Students were selected by a committee of fine arts educators after meeting certain criteria and submitting applications and letters of recommendation.
The recipients were recognized at a ceremony on Tuesday, April 23, at the Scottish Rite Temple in Guthrie.
The Bomhoffs also were among three of the student performances presented during the ceremony.
Both Bomhoffs were part of two one-act play state championships at Okarche.
Katie was also named Academic All-State, one-act play all-state cast, two-time speech state finalist and was the captain of the school’s academic team.
She plans to major in mechanical engineering and physics at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.
Rob was named an all-state actor and was a one-act play state qualifier four years. He was also a member of the National Honor Society.
He plans to study acting at the American Musical and Dramatic Academy (AMDA) in New York City.
