Okarche returns from layoff with sweep
A long layoff did little to hurt Logan Kroener’s shooting stroke.
The Okarche senior scored 17 points last Friday to help boost his team to a 57-50 road win against Fairview.
It was Okarche’s first game since opening the season Nov. 6 at Preston. Since then, the Warriors and Lady Warriors have had three games postponed or canceled.
Kroener showed no ill effects as he went 5 of 8 from 3-point range and was 6 of 11 overall.
He added a team-high eight rebounds as well as Okarche built a four-point first quarter lead and built on it until the fourth quarter.
The Warriors also got 15 points from Brayden Stover, who made the team’s other two 3-point field goals, and another 10 from Evan Endres.
P.K. Harris chipped in eight points.
Lady Warriors get comeback win
Okarche didn’t make enough fourth-quarter free throws Friday night in their coach’s estimation.
But the Lady Warriors made enough to win.
Playing for the first time in a month, Okarche picked up a 55-51 come-frombehind road win against Fairview.
Trailing by the same two-point deficit it had at halftime, Okarche outscored Fairview 18-12 in the fourth.
The Lady Warriors went 8 of 17 from the foul line down the stretch and were 19 of 36 overall.
“Beating a program like Fairview on the road is always a positive,” said coach Haley Mitchel. “But we still have to getbetter at making free throws.”
Fairview itself was just 3 of 7 from the foul line in the final frame.
Tyson Endres came alive to score seven of her nine points for Okarche in the last quarter.
Jaclyn Rother scored five of her eight total points during that stretch. Rother also had five rebounds and four assists.
The team was led by Ryen Wittrock’s 12 points.
She scored seven in the first quarter and 10 in the first half.
Karsyn Vallerand and Madison Owens joined Rother in scoring eight points.
Vallerand also led the team with seven rebounds and three steals.
