PARADE WEEK IS HERE
Don’t forget, thousands will converge on Kingfisher this weekend for the annual Christmas parade and fireworks (and now lasers) spectacular.
The event has morphed into a day and night full of activities throughout our city.
Here’s a list of things to do and things to keep in mind . . .
When and where to go
• The Winterfest Craft Fair runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds;
• Free pictures with Santa Claus at Heritage Pharmacy from 10 a.m. to noon;
• 89er Theatre will have a matinee showing of “The Grinch” at 2 p.m. Other matinees offered that morning and evening showtimes are also available (See ad on Page 5).
• The Sunrise Cafe Fit and Festive 5K Fun Run begins at 3 p.m. at Newfield Community Park;
• There will be food vendors parked at Block 35 beginning at 4 p.m.;
• Local restaurants and other downtown merchants will be open before and after the parade festivities;
• Parade at 6 p.m. on Main Street from Interbank south to BancFirst. Theme is “Lights.... Camera...Christmas” and Terri Peck is the parade marshal; • Kingfisher Winter Nights is open from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Kingfisher Park;
• The newly-lit Newfield Community Park will be open for a stroll throughout the evening.
Things to Know
• Handicap parking will be on East Admire on both the north and south sides of the road;
• Portable restroom facilities will be located along Broadway, Miles and Admire; • There are some precautions to note regarding the laser light show. (See last Sunday’s edition for more or see the Kingfisher Chamber of Commerce Facebook page for more information.)
From the KPD
Police Chief David Catron also wants to make sure patrons are aware of safety precautions being put in place:
• All parallel parking spaces on Main Street between Sheridan and Sykes avenues will be closed and barricaded at 9 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1;
• If the owners of vehicles left parked in restricted spaces cannot be located, the vehicles will be towed at the owner’s expense.
“We appreciate your cooperating in temporarily securing alternative parking as we prepare for this event and the safety of all spectators,” Catron said.
