Patocka hosts May meeting of Hennessey Farmerettes
The Hennessey Farmerettes met at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, May 9, in the home of Kathy Patocka.
Answering roll call with “Give an example of your having done something memorable with your children” were Maxine Helgeson, Mary Curry, Lily Rourke, Billie Melendy Jaimie Akenhead, Jean Stribel and Patocka.
Melendy, the president, opened the meeting leading the flag salute. Curry, the chaplain, read “Watch and Learn.”
Last month’s addition to the treasury was reported by Akenhead, the treasurer.
Patocka, the reporter, read minutes of the April meeting with one correction made. Three club members – Melendy, Curry and Akenhead – took the group’s collection of fruit to the Kingfisher County Fairgrounds and assisted with the “paint day” being held there.
Melendy gave notice of upcoming events in May, June and July including an arthritis exercise program at 10 a.m. starting in May.
“Walking with Ease” class begins May 28 at 6 p.m. at the Exhibit Building. The Extension Office is offering cooking workshops every second Tuesday from 5:30-6:30 p.m. The state OHCE meeting is to be held at the Embassy Suites July 8-9; registration being $120.
And on July 11 there is an “Eat Right When Money is Tight” meeting.
The group discussed progress of member Margie McConnell and Doyle Miller, husband of Dot, as well as Bill Bug with addresses given for correspondence purposes.
Patocka motioned to adjourn and it was seconded by Akenhead.
Melendy, the lesson leader, gave the lesson “Making the most of time with your grandchildren.”
The group conveyed it had a good time with “every grandmothers favorite subject.”
Melendy distributed literature with numerous ideas for entertaining grandchildren.
Patocka served iced tea and water, assorted nuts and candies and lemon blueberry cake for dessert. The quarter drill was won by Akenhead.
Next month is a free month and Curry, chairman of the special committee, discussed several ideas for the group’s fun day out on June 13.
