Payne joins KPS board Thursday

Newly-elected member takes oath at special meeting

By

Kingfisher’s board of education will have a short, but busy and productive agenda Thursday when it gathers for a special meeting.

Terry Payne oath of office as the board’s new member shortly after the meeting convenes at 5:30 p.m. at the Board of Education office.

Payne defeated incumbent Mike Copeland in an election earlier this month.

The board will then reorganize, which will include Dana Golbek moving from vice president to president.

A new vice president and a new clerk will also be selected.

Once that business is completed, the board will move into executive session.

According an agenda posted on Tuesday, members will review and possibly interview candidates for superintendent.

The board is searching for the replacement of Jason Sternberger, who is in his 10th here.

Sternberger in March accepted the same role at Hennessey Public Schools.

Board members had one round of interviews earlier this month, but last week re-opened the position for more applications.

Also on the agenda is the employment of a new girls basketball coach and a new middle school secretary.

The search for a girls basketball coach began when Gerrett Spears announced his resignation after two years.

Longtime KMS secretary Schrie Braden announced earlier this month she’s retiring at the end of this school year.
