Pioneer making move to VoLTE technology
Brian Gilles, wireless product marketing coordinator at Pioneer Telephone, was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Lions Club last Thursday.
The focus of his presentation was to tell of Pioneer’s efforts to switch cellular customers to VoLTE technology.
He said VoLTE (short for Voice over Long-Term Evolution) will allow Pioneer customers to have the ability to perform voice and data sessions at the same time. He said it also enables high-definition voice quality which makes a mobile call “sound as if you are talking in person.”
He added that calls will connect more quickly and users should experience longer battery life as well. And, Gilles added, as VoLTE deployment evolves, it will also allow for international roaming capabilities in the future.
Gilles said Pioneer’s cellular customers must take their phones to their local Pioneer retail store to have their SIM (Subscriber Identification Module) card replaced to help complete the switch.
“We sent out text messages to our customers asking them to stop by a Pioneer office to make the change for free,” Gilles said.
Cellular customers interested in determining whether their device is VoLTE capable should visit the Pioneer website link: GoPioneer.com/cdma-net-work-retirement/.
Gilles said those who discover their device is not VoLTE capable should consider upgrading their device in the near future and are asked to contact their local Pioneer store to assist with the purchase of a new device.
Gilles was introduced to the club by fellow Pioneer employee and Lions Club member Greg Copeland.
