Police chief promotes new program
Kingfisher Police Chief Dennis Baker, right, was the guest speaker of the Kingfisher Lions Club last week. He was promoting the “Christmas With A Cop” program in which the Kingfisher Police Department will provide a $200-$300 Christmas shopping spree for the families of at least 10 area children between the ages of 3 and 9 who are in need. Baker said policemen will caravan to the store, with the children in the police cruisers, and help them select gifts for their family members and themselves. He said they would partner with the Kingfisher County Department of Human Services to identify those most in need, and after helping the children select their presents, the policemen, their wives or significant others, will assist the children in wrapping and preparing the gifts. At the end of the program, the Lions Club voted to donate $200 toward the event. Lions Club member Blair Coughlan, left, introduced Baker to the club. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
