Post office adjusts for pandemic

By

The United States Postal Service, like many, is adjusting part of its routine with multiple operational changes due to COVID-19.

“But delivering your mail and packages is not one of those changes,” assures Gary Townsend, postmaster of the Kingfisher Post Office.

“To help keep you and our employees safe during this time, the USPS wants you to know about how we’re adapting delivery procedures to promote social distancing.”

Following are the steps carriers will take in delivering packages that require signatures:

• Carriers will knock on the door rather than touching the doorbell;

• The carrier will maintain a safe distance and instead of asking for a signature on the mobile device, they will ask you for your first initial and last name;

• The carrier will leave the mail or package in a safe place for you to retrieve.

• Do not attempt to take the delivery directly from the carrier; give them time to walk away before collecting it.

“The Center for Disease Control (CDC), World Health Organization (WHO) as well as the Surgeon General have indicated there is currently no evidence that COVID-19 is being spread through mail and packages,” Townsend said.

The changes even include the delivery of stamps.

Those who wish to have stamps delivered are advised to place a check payable to Postmaster for the correct amount in an envelope addressed to:

Postmaster

Kingfisher, OK 73750

Be sure to include your return address on the envelope.

Patrons can also call the Kingfisher Post Office at 405-375-6686 during normal window hours to request stamps be delivered.
