Rain closes out previously dry December
Welcome rain measuring from an inch to two inches fell over Kingfi sher County over the weekend.
Small grain crops, beginning to show signs of a dry December, got a boost.
Before the weekend rain, Kingfisher had recorded only .05 inch of rain early in the month and a light snow – not enough to provide measurable moisture – at the middle of the month.
Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis reported a total of 1.3 inches at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfi sher –
.05 inch at 7 a.m. Saturday (from the preceding 24 hours) and 1.25 inches at 7 a.m. Sunday.
The Mesonet site at the Mueggenborg farm west of Kingfisher recorded 1.29 inches for the weekend.
Water was standing in fields following a downpour shortly after noon Saturday in the Kingfi sher area.
There was a report of a brief high wind in west Kingfisher that accompanied Saturday’s rain, tossing outdoor trash containers around and causing some minor damage.
Other rainfall reports across the county included
Cashion – .75 inch at Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator.
Dover – 1.7 inches at the Mike Witt residence northwest of Dover.
Hennessey – About two inches at the Ray Alan Shimanek residence east of Hennessey.
Okarche – about one inch at both the CHS Elevator in Okarche and the Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator west of Okarche and 1.7 inches at the Mike and Donna Reid residence, northwest of Okarche.
Kingfisher – 2.03 inches at an unoffi cial gauge along Shafenberg Road east of Kingfisher and 1.75 inches at the Twila Adams residence east of Kingfi sher.
