Reid graduates Naval Academy

By

Kingfisher High School 2014 graduate Ben Reid graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on Friday, May 24, with a degree in quantitative economics.

He also was sworn in and commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Reid was among 1,064 Naval Academy graduates who will either enter the U.S. Navy with the rank of ensign, or enter the Marine Corps as second lieutenants.

Following a month of leave, Reid will report back for duty at the naval academy in Annapolis, before beginning six months of Marine officer training at Quantico, Va.

Commissioning week, prior to the graduation ceremony, was filled with family-related receptions, parades, lunches and dinners on and off academy grounds.

Reid was joined for all or part of the week’s festivities and events by his parents Barry and Mary Reid, and younger brother Ross of Kingfisher, as well as his older brother Conner, who also resides in Annapolis.

Also attending graduation ceremonies were family friends Todd and Laura Taylor of Oklahoma City, his grandfather Gary Reid, with his wife Christine of Kingfisher, and Reid’s classmates Zach Moore of Stillwater, and Trey Buckner of Kingfisher.

Also joining were Reid’s fiancée Julia Speranzo, who will be a senior at the naval academy next fall, with her parents Joe and Marion Speranzo of Springfield, Va.
