The American Cancer Society of Oklahoma has created a statewide “Front Porch Luminaria” event set for Friday, May 15.
It will be from 7 to 10 p.m. “The fight against can
“The fight against cancer is being challenged like never before and the mission of the American Cancer Society is so critical to families facing cancer,” said Jayne Meyer, senior manager for ACS Community Development.
“In the face of this threat to our mission, we are bringing communities together across the state to show we won’t back down from our mission to save lives from cancer.”
Luminarias have been a mainstay of the American Cancer Society, especially as part of the organization’s Relay For Life events.
Traditionally, paper bags are decorated, and a light is placed inside to create the luminaria.
“As a show of support, we ask everyone to get creative, find a paper bag, decorate it and place it on your front porch Friday evening,” Meyer said.
“It is a moving display of tributes to honor loved ones who are surviving cancer or to remember loved ones who have been lost.”
The Front Porch Luminaria event will also help raise funds as the American Cancer Society recovers from the COVID-19 pandemic.
A $10 donation is requested, and additional information can be found at www.RelayForLife.org.
