American Legion Memorial Day Service recognizes ultimate sacrifice
As flood cleanup efforts continued on a rare sunny and dry Monday, area residents gathered at the local American Legion Post No. 5 annual Memorial Day ceremony at Kingfisher Cemetery.
Members of the honor guard (and volunteers) end the ceremony by firing the Salute to the Dead, followed by Taps.
Post Commander Charles Storm served as keynote speaker, reminded “It’s important we honor today the legacy of those who gave their lives, but it’s more important that we continue to honor them as we go about our lives, so that they did not die in vain.”
Storm and Legion Auxiliary President Gladys Hopkins lay wreathes at the foot of the Unknown Soldier memorial.
