Kingfisher Assistant Police Chief David Catron, left, was presented with a check for $300 from Kingfisher Rotary Club Treasurer Brian Henderson, right, following Catron’s presentation to the local civic club on the subject of the upcoming Christmas With A Cop event. Catron said Kingfisher policemen and their wives will participate with selected Kingfisher school children in selecting and wrapping Christmas gifts for themselves and their family members. He said school counselors and others within the community will assist in selecting the families in need to help ensure they have a Merry Christmas. He said the response from the community has been fantastic and funds for this year’s event were already collected and the balance was being saved for next year’s project. On discussing other topics, Catron said crime was up in Kingfisher and the department hoped to have an additional officer on board soon, bringing the force up to 13 total. He said the Kingfisher Police Department was the only law enforcement entity in the county to have continuous patrolmen on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week. He said all law enforcement departments in the county were stretched thin, and the 13th officer would help distribute the work load, and was a necessity, not a luxury. [KT&FP Staff Photo]
