House Majority Leader Mike Sanders was recently honored by his collegiate alma mater.

Sanders was presented the Department of History and Political Science Alumnus of the Year Award by Oklahoma Christian University.

The award was presented Friday, Nov. 1, during OC’s 2019 Alumni Awards for the College of Liberal Arts at Adams Recital Hall in the Garvey Center on the school’s campus.

“I am so incredibly humbled to be honored as the 2019 Alumnus of the Year for the School of Liberal Arts at OC,” Sanders said. “I received an incredible education and friendships that have lasted through the years. The OC leadership from President (John) deSteiguer down is outstanding and I am so honored to join this elite group of OC alumni.”

Sanders, a Kingfisher High School graduate, earned a bachelor’s degree in history and pre-law from OC in 1997.

A letter informing Sanders of his honor stated: “The faculty and staff of the Department of History and Political Science deem this a ‘special honor’ and make their selections very carefully from among a large group of alumni. The honor of being chosen is, therefore, a special one.”

Sanders was joined at the ceremony by wife, Nellie, and sons Davis and Walker.
