Sanders urges interested constituents to apply for White House internships
House Majority Leader Mike Sanders, R-Kingfisher, last week received details of the White House Internship Program for 2021 and is passing them along to anyone from his district interested in applying.
“This is the most prestigious internship program in the world, and is a great opportunity for college students, recent college graduates or veterans,” said Sanders, who served as director of interns in the President George W. Bush White House.
“Interns receive a closeup view of the American presidency and the function of our nation’s government, and this experience simply cannot be topped on a resume.”
Sanders oversaw the hiring of more than 1,000 young people from all across the United States, including many from Oklahoma, during his time as director.
He encourages young people throughout House District 59 to apply.
Details on how to apply for the Spring 2021 White House Internship Program can be found online at https://www.whitehouse.gov/get-involved/ internships/apply/.
The application portal will remain open until 11:59 p.m. Friday, Aug. 28.
The Spring 2021 White House Internship Program term runs from Wednesday, Jan. 27, to Friday, April 16.
Application decisions will be announced during the week of Nov. 9.
All applicants must be at least 18 years of age by the internship program start date and must be able to commit to the full internship term to be eligible.
Additionally, applicants must be United States citizens and meet at least one of the following criteria to apply:
• Are currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to four-year institution) and have completed two semes ters prior to the internship start date.
• Have graduated from an undergraduate or graduate degree program at a college, community college, or university (two-to four-year institution) no more than two years before the internship program start date.
• Are a veteran of the United States Armed Forces who possesses a high school diploma or its equivalent and has served on active duty – for any length of time – in the two years preceding the internship program start date.
The White House Internship Program is highly competitive, Sanders said.
Applicants are selected based on their demonstrated commitment to public service, leadership in the community and commitment to the mission of the Trump administration, he added.
