Candidate filing for area school board seats begins Monday at the Kingfisher County Election Board in the courthouse.

Declarations of Candidacy can be filed any time between 8 a.m. Monday and 5 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2-4, Election Board Secretary Shawna Butts said.

The school board positions at stake will be filled either at the annual school primary election on Feb. 11 or the school general election on April 7.

If only two candidates fi le, the race will go straight to the April 7 general election ballot.

If more than two candidates file, the race will first be voted on at the Feb. 11 primary election and if no candidate receives more than 50 percent of the vote, the top two vote-getters will advance to the April 7 general election.

To be eligible to run for a school board offi ce, a prospective candidate must live within the geographic boundaries of the school district.

Candidates can file in Kingfi sher County for one of the following seats, all of which are fi ve-year terms:

Public school districts – Kingfisher, Dover, Okarche, Cashion, Crescent, Drummond, Okeene, Covington-Douglas and Piedmont public school districts (all Office No. 5).

Technology center boards – Chisholm Trail and Canadian Valley (both Position No. 2), O.T. Autry (Position No. 3) and Francis Tuttle (Position No. 5).

Dec. 2-4 is also the period when candidates for U.S. President fi le Declarations of Candidacy with the state election board to be listed on the state’s Presidential Preference Primary in March.
