Second snow brings added moisture, more winter fun
The second snow in one week Tuesday left an additional .4 inch of moisture at the National Weather Service station in Kingfisher, Local Weather Observer Steve Loftis reported.
The Mesonet site west of Kingfisher at the Mueggenborg Farm recorded .60 inch of additional moisture.
The snow, which began falling after daylight Tuesday continued falling until after noon, falling on top of 6.5 inches of snow that fell on Sunday.
The wintry blast created an early traditional Christmas appearance to the area but no unusual problems. Drivers on the snowy roads and streets, which were quickly cleared, used caution and no serious accidents were reported.
Cattlemen began spreading the abundant hay crop harvested last summer although cattle were seen grazing on wheat fields, rooting through the snow to find the fresh, green wheat.
Other regional moisture readings on the Mesonet site included: Watonga .72, El Reno. 51, Guthrie .61, Marshall .54, Yukon .48 and Fairview .53 inch.
