Senator Inhofe flies in for local visit

Senior statesman presents positive outlook at breakfast town meeting

By

Sen. Jim Inhofe discussed a wide range of issues at a town hall meeting Friday at City Cafe in Kingfisher.

Inhofe, who flew his private plane into Kingfisher Municipal Airport, presented a fact sheet containing a number of congressional actions enacted by the U.S. House of Representatives now under Democrat control that appear to be a concerted effort to undermine the presidential agenda but said he was more optimistic about the state of America than he had been in some time with Donald Trump as president.

He cited 10 top accomplishments of the Trump administration:

1. Biggest tax cuts since 1986.

2. Golden Age of regulation relief: Best economy since 2000 with over 1,500 rules repealed – 3% Gross Domestic Product (GDP) compared to 1.5% during the Obama years and five million people off food stamps.

3. Energy dominance – U.S. now largest oil and gas producer: 251% growth in crude exports, 132% increase in coal exports and 58% increase in natural gas exports.

4. Trump’s crackdown on illegal immigration and continuing determination to build the wall, referring to the 144,000 undocumented immigrants at the border in May.

5. Moved the U.S. Embassy in Israel to Jerusalem.

6. Infrastructure bills in Congress: WRDA (Water Resources Development Act, addressing water infrastructure needs critical for the nation’s economic competitiveness and domestic security) and FAA Reauthorization Act dealing with airport program improvements.

7. Supreme Court appointments of Neil Gorsuch and Brett Kavanaugh.

8. Dismantling Dodd-Frank rules, freeing thousands of small and medium-sized banks from strangling regulations.

9. Passed the Perkins Career Tech bill, increasing the quality of technical education.

10. Strongest military in 15 years with increases to the military budget, $750 billion this year compared to $596 billion in 2015.

He also handed out fact sheets showing the U.S. at the top of a list of countries with reductions in carbon dioxide emissions. China is at the bottom of the list, preceded by India, Turkey and the European Union.

He also provided another handout listing Trump executive actions, including regulatory reform (requiring two regulations be repealed for each new regulation), direct repeal of the Waters of the United States (WOTUS) act, end of the war on fossil fuels, reinstatement of bans on federal funds going to nongovernment organizations (NGOs) that do abortions, freeze on federal hiring, exempting military.
