Cashion’s Lynn Shackelford picked up some hardware at last weekend’s Oklahoma Athletic Directors Conference.

Shackelford was named the Oklahoma interscholastic Athletic Administrator Association’s Small-School Athletic Director of the Year.

He was presented the honor last Tuesday as part of the three-day conference at the Grand Casino in Shawnee.

“Hire good people and stay out of the way,” said Shackelford when asked for his recipe for success.

“That’s the most important thing.” Cashion’s athletic programs had their share of successes during the season.

It culminated in the spring when the baseball team captured the Class 2A-I state championship, the first in the program’s history.

The spring also saw Cashion’s girls track team place third in Class 2A and crown multiple individual and relay state champions.

Cashion also hosted a Class 2A regional track meet for the first time this year.

In the fall, the Cashion football team, with Shackelford as the head coach, reached the Class A quarterfi nals.

Winter sports saw Cashion have multiple state qualifiers in wrestling, which is still a new sport for the school, including its first-ever female state qualifier.

The girls basketball team fell one win shy of the state tournament while the boys basketball team did qualify for the Class 2A state field.

Shackelford has been the AD at Cashion since 2006.
