Storm brings rain, but ice avoided
Rain fell across Kingfisher County and a section of the state running from Copan in the Northeast to a broad section of southwest Oklahoma from the Tipton-Altus area to Waurika.
Kingfisher Weather Observer Steve Loftis recorded .45 inch of rain at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfisher and the Mesonet station west of Kingfisher on the Mueggenborg farm recorded .5 inch.
Other Mesonet readings in this area included: Marshal .59 inch, Watonga .01 inch, Guthrie 1.38 inches, El Reno .86 inch and Minco 1.6 inches.
The local forecast called for a continued chance of rain through Friday night followed by a sunny day Saturday with a high of 54 and a low of 30 degrees.
Although ice began forming on car windshields in Kingfisher Thursday night, warming temperatures overnight prevented an ice storm.
Cimarron Electric Cooperative Chief Operating Officer-Jeff Hyatt said the electrical cooperative sustained no outages from ice.
“We were concerned when it started freezing Thursday night,” he said.
But the warming overnight temperatures prevented having to send line crewmen out.
Most of northwestern Oklahoma where Cimarron Electric operates missed heavy rainfall.
