Storm delivers heavy rain, property damage Thursday

Heavy rain and strong winds hit portions of Kingfisher County Thursday afternoon.

Property damage occurred in the Dover area, City-County Emergency Management Director Steve Loftis said.

There were unconfirmed reports of a tornado in the vicinity of Dover about 3 p.m. Thursday but Loftis said he had not received any confirmation that a tornado touched down.

However a number of houses and outbuildings sustained damage. Loftis said the damage could have been caused by straight winds.

Rainfall amounts ranged from 4.8 inches at Cashion to a half inch at Okarche Grain and Feed, west of Okarche.

Cashion Grain and Feed elevator reported the 4.8 inch deluge.

High winds and driving rain hit Kingfisher mid-afternoon Thursday.

Other rainfall reports across the county included:

Dover – 2.25 inches at the Rick and Robin Johnston residence northwest of Dover.

Hennessey – 2.5 inches at the Harold Ebers residence.

Kingfisher – 2.25 inches at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfisher where Loftis serves as official weather observer, one inch east of Kingfisher at the Twila Adams residence,1.8 inches at an unofficial gauge near Shafenberg Road 1.5 miles southeast of Kingfisher and .7 inch at the Mike and Donna Reid residence, southwest of Kingfisher. Loftis said David Miller northeast of Kingfisher was reported to have received 4.5 inches of rain.

Loyal – Roberta Russell 3.2 inches, according to a report to Tom Arms.

Okarche – .75 inch at the CHS Elevator in Okarche and .5 inch at the Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator vicinity.

Omega – 1.2 inches at Wheeler Brothers Elevator.
