Storms bring more rain, cool temps to area
Kingfisher County received additional rain early Wednesday.
Thunderstorms brought as much as 2.9 inches in the Loyal-Omega area.
The unexpected moisture provided another boost to area crops, pastures, lawns and gardens following unusually heavy rains in July.
County rainfall reports included:
Kingfisher – .63 inch at private gauges and at the Mesonet site west of Kingfisher on the Mueggenborg farm, .8 inch at an unofficial gauge in the Wildwood Addition, east of Kingfisher, .75 inch at the National Weather Service Station in Kingfisher where Steve Loftis is official weather observer and .6 inch at the Twila Adams residence east of Kingfisher.
Cashion – one-half inch at the Cashion Grain and Feed Elevator.
Dover – .8 inch at the Rick and Robin Johnston residence, northwest of Dover.
Hennessey – .8 inch Wednesday and another shower Thursday night-Friday morning as recorded at the CHS Elevator in Hennessey.
Loyal-Omega 2.5 inches at the Wheeler Brothers Elevator at Omega with other reports in the area of 2.1, 2.4 and 2.9 inches. Jon Cochran in Loyal recorded 2.2 inches at his residence.
Okarche – .63 inch at the CHS Elevator, .9 inch at the Mike and Donna Reid residence northwest of Okarche and two inches at the Okarche Grain and Feed Elevator west of Okarche. Kristi Washington at Okarche Grain and Feed reported three inches of rain at her residence near the North Canadian River, north of Calumet.
Mesonet readings for the 24-hour period ending at 7 a.m. Wednesday included: Kingfisher .63, El Reno 2.27, Watonga 1.32, Minco 2.7, Fairview 1.03, Lahoma 1.04, Guthrie .46, Chickasha 1.32 and Woodward .39.
The weather system brought welcome relief to the area from sweltering summer heat. Highs ranged in the low to high 80s throughout the past week.
