Strong to the Finish
As spring sports wind down, local trophies stack up
Kingfisher’s most recent individual state champs are Maddi Kamas in girls’ golf, left, and Ally Stephenson, whose state meet record-tying 5-8 high jump vaulted her into the No. 1 slot. Stephenson beat her own personal best of 5-6, which brought home the state championship in 2019, as well as tying the 36-year-old state meet record. Kamas became Kingfisher’s second girls golf state champion as she carded rounds of 69 and 67 last Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, at Cushing’s Buffalo Rock Golf & Venue. Her combined score of 136 – 4-under-par overall – was 20 strokes better than runner-up Layne Ailshie of Fort Gibson.
