Student photos among best in national contest

Kingfisher High School graduate Ashton Wensman Bensinger received first place recently in the photojournalism category at the National Photography Society of America Youth Photo Contest.

Bensinger graduated from KHS in May.

His photo – “Duty, Honor, Country” – was taken during a Washington, D.C., trip to Arlington National Cemetery.

“Ashton was certainly one of the finest photographers I’ve worked with in many years,” said Bensinger’s photo instructor at KHS, Dr. A.J. Johnson.

“While I can teach technique, I can’t teach artistry and Ashton is a true photo artist. Needless to say, we are very proud of him.”

Bensinger’s photo also won first place in the Oklahoma Camera Club Youth Photo Contest held in March.

Braden Burns, who will be a senior at KHS this fall, was also a winner at the PSA contest.

He earned second place in cityscapes category for an evening photo taken in Jerusalem during a family trip.

This photo won first place at the Oklahoma Camera Club contest.

“Braden is also an outstanding photographer and, like Ashton, is someone a teacher gets started and then gets out of the way,” Johnson said.

In addition to these winners, KHS junior Isaiah Black and recent graduate Priscilla Delatorre received honorable mentions for their submissions.
