But the Sun promises to return, just in time for weekend
Kingfisher County just doesn’t have time this week for protracted bad weather and fortunately the forecast appears to be prepared to comply.
The ice storm and continuing precipitationmay keep parents and children housebound for the next couple of days, but the rain will stop and temps will warm to the 50s by Friday and 60s by Saturday.
Sunday is expected to dawn bright, clear and cloudless, with temps in the low 50s. That’s just in time for a busy weekend packed with fall fun – and a little civic responsibility thrown in.
EARLY VOTING for the Nov. 3 General Election starts Thursday and Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday from 9 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Kingfisher County Courthouse. A photo ID is required. See the Oct. 21 edition for ballot details.
DOWNTOWN TRICK-OR-TREAT is scheduled from 4-5 p.m. Friday on the three blocks of Kingfisher’s downtown. For social distancing purposes, foot traffic will be one-way only – north on the east sidewalk and south on the west sidewalk.
Courthouse offices also will welcome trick-or-treaters from 4-4:30 p.m.
FREE ADMISSION at Chisholm Trail Museum from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday for everyone dressed in costume. Come pick up a treat bag and explore the museum at no charge.
RESIDENTIAL TRICK-OR-TREAT is Saturday night in all county communities. Scheduled times are 6-9 p.m. in Kingfisher.
SET YOUR CLOCKS BACK Sunday for the end of Daylight Savings Time – just in time to get in a whole extra hour of shopping with your local downtown merchants.
DOWNTOWN OPEN HOUSE Sunday on Kingfisher’s Main Street. Bring the family and plan to spend the afternoon.
See the Sunday, Oct. 25, edition for full details, but here are the highlights:
• Enjoy Turkey Dinner with all the fixings at one of three local restaurants – STACK Grill, Snider’s Catering or Sunrise Cafe.
•Take Family Pics at one of three locations – with the Express Employment Professionals Clydesdales, spending the afternoon behind the former First United Methodist Church, at Century 21 Goodyear Green Real Estate (with Santa) from 2-5 p.m., and at a mobile photo booth with the props of your choice.
•Shop the Day Away at participating downtown merchants, who are rolling out their best deals of the season (see ads inside this edition). Not only can you fill your entire shopping list while supporting local businesses, but you can do it at the lowest sales tax rate of the season.
•Stick Around, the fun-packed day doesn’t end until after dark with a ceremonial tree lighting at the Kingfisher County Courthouse. The Clydesdales will lead the way there with Mr. and Mrs. Claus at 5:30 p.m., followed by music provided by the Kingfisher High School choir and then the tree-lighting.
