Supreme Court orders state courts on hold
State courts are effectively on hold for the next 30 days based on an emergency order from the state Supreme Court, Associate District Judge Lance Schneiter said late Tuesday.
According to the order, all 77 county district courts will cancel all jury trials scheduled and release jurors from service. All civil, criminal and juvenile jury trials will be continued to the next available jury docket.
Civil statutes of limitations will be extended by 30 days and as far as possible without creating a constitutional violation, all nonjury tiral hearings, pretrial hearings and appearances will be rescheduled.
Emergency matters will be handled on a case-by-case basis and remote participation through telephone or video conferencing will be used wherever possible.
“If an urgent matter arises, we ask the affected parties to call the Kingfisher County Court Clerk or my chambers to arrange for the matter tobe heard,” Schneiter said. “We must ensure constitutional rights are being protected, but at the same time not put anyone at risk, including courthouse personnel.”
