Talking bond issue with Rotary, Lions
Members and guests of two Kingfisher civic groups last week had the opportunity to ask questions and gather information on a proposed bond issue for voters in the Kingfisher Public Schools district. KPS Superintendent Jason Sternberger, pictured right in both photos, was the guest speaker at the Rotary Club last Tuesday and then the Lions Club on Thursday. He provided the audiences with a plethora of information on the proposed seventh and eighth grade center that would be constructed south of the APB should the bond issue be passed on Sept. 10. Board of education members called for the special election at a special meeting on July 8. They’re asking voters to pass a $16.75 million bond issue for the 40,500 square-foot building that would allow for the redistribution of students at Gilmour Elementary, Heritage and the current middle school while also allowing for future growth. Sternberger noted that when he began as superintendent in 2011, the district had an enrollment of 1,270. That number stood at 1,519 at the end of the 2018-19 school year. Sternberger also answered a number of questions from the audiences. Lions Club member Zack Meyer is pictured with him.
