Theta Tau covers busy April meeting agenda

By

Theta Tau, Epsilon Sigma Alpha, meeting was held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 15, at the First Christian Church Fellowship Hall.

President Cynthia Eaton conducted the business meeting.

Madell Henderson, chaplain, gave the devotion “God’s Love to Answer Your Call,” based on Psalms 3:4 and taken from the book “100 Things God Loves About You.”

Each month a jar had been passed around with all funds going to the disaster fund which is used to help members when they experience a devastating loss, e.g., fires and floods to home, medical expenses, etc. As of this meeting, $125 has been collected and sent to Peggy Sprinkle, chairman of the State Disaster Fund.

With the year of fundraising activities, breads, Aunt Bills candy and cinnamon rolls, the chapter has made donations to just some of its philanthropic projects: Oklahoma School for the Blind, Oklahoma School for the Deaf (for which the club sponsors seven students), ESA, St. Jude’s Children Research Hospital, donated 20 pair of socks for a worthy cause, donated two baskets to state and IC conventions, ESA fantasy event, Easter Seals, disaster fund and state projects which are the two schools.

The members this past year have worked the St. Jude’s Dream Home in Edmond and the radio-thon. OSD will be having a book fair and the chapter sent money for the students to purchase book(s).

A donation will be made to the Blue Star Moms in memory of Gwen, a sister to Madell Henderson and LaVenia Boutwell. Blue Star Moms was started by two mothers who lost their children in military combat in Iraq/Afghanistan. They fill “Freedom Boxes” with basic personal supplies, books, snacks, etc. each month.

This is a nationwide organization and Oklahoma has several chapters-Tulsa, Enid, Lawton and other cities.

Holsted has turned in the group’s philanthropic reports and Ramona Paine has turned in all the news articles for the publicity book, also sent in six educationals for the Gold Link award and the education book of all the educationals given on meeting topics were sent to the state chairmen of these divisions.

Cynthia Eaton was recognized for her 40 years of service and Anita Long for 35 years of service to ESA.

Cathy and Doc Holsted on March 16 attended the combination of District II and District IV meeting in Norman. Those districts have now combined and are known as the Western District. Cathy Holsted and Cynthia Eaton made the cake and punch for this meeting.

Two educationals were given on the group’s yearly theme: “What is Your Birth Flower Month?”

Misty Blundell, April 26, gave the report on the daisy and the sweet pea. The members learned that April born people have a strong personality and love attention, which can make them fun friends. They tend to have good memories, are great diplomats and can assist friends and family with solutions to their problems.

Donna McPherson, having a birthday on Aug. 15, told members that the August birth flower is the gladiola. August born people have great dreams for themselves and are highly generous, she said.

The hostess and co-hostess were the sisters Stormy Simmons and Misty Blundell. Those dining on refreshments were Donna McPherson, Debi Trout, Eaton, Cathy Holsted, Ramona Paine, Dana Golbek, Madell Henderson, LaVenia Boutwell, Dana Terrell, Simmons and Blundell.

The next meeting will be 6 p.m. Monday, May 20, at the home of Cynthia Eaton where the Social Committee will provide a meal and members will fellowship. Following the meal, the group will have installation of new officers and the revealing of secret sisters.
