Thieves target political signs

Kingfisher Police Department is investigating a rash of stolen Trump signs and flags from four residents last Thursday night or early Friday.

The reports include:

•Mike Sanders residence, 1100 S. Main St., “Trump for President” sign removed from the yard. Sanders said an identical sign had been stolen Aug. 4.

•Rusty Austin residence, 510 S. Main St.,Trump flag cut from flagpole in front of the residence.

•Lyle McCune residence, 1601 Lakeview Drive, “Trump/Pence 2020” sign removed from the yard.

•Grant Gallupe residence, 1203 Coleman Trail, Trump flag cut from flagpole. Gallupe also reported that his wife Connie found a pill bottle that had been left inside their home three weeks ago. The bottle had a hand-written label reading “COVID” and contained hemorrhoid gel, Gallupe said.

Another incident involving a Trump flag and Thin Blue Line flag allegedly stolen from a residential fence in the Wildwood Estates addition east of Kingfisher also was reported on the same night.

Police Chief Dennis Catron said theft of a Joe Biden campaign sign was reported a few weeks ago.

Catron said depending on the facts, anyone involved in stealing or defacing campaign signs or flags can be subject to criminal charges of theft, vandalism or both.
