Tulsa man charged in two burglaries
Deputies arrest him as owners watch on security video
A Tulsa man who told deputies he “goes where life takes him” was arrested while allegedly burglarizing the second of two county homes – in full view of the absent homeowners who were watching a live feed from their security video.
Mathew Jordan Mader, 25, 2723 E. Third St., Tulsa, was charged Wednesday in Kingfisher County District Court with two counts of second-degree burglary and one count of possession of a firearm after a former felony conviction.
He remains jailed on $25,000 bond after pleading not guilty to all charges Wednesday and is scheduled to return to court at 1:30 p.m. Aug. 14.
Kingfisher County Sheriff’s deputies Todd Davis and Mike Shults were dispatched about 12:30 p.m. last Tuesday when Robert Purvis reported that he was watching a live remote feed from his home security system of “two or three” individuals loading items into Purvis’ vehicle.
Purvis and his wife were away from their home at 25605 N. 2940 Road, Cashion, according to Davis’ affidavit.
When deputies arrived at the residence, they had to call Purvis to get the code to the locked gate across the driveway.
They later learned from Mader that he road to the property on a bicycle that he had allegedly stolen from a neighboring residence, lifted the bicycle over the gate and then crawled through, leaving the gate shut, according to the affidavit.
Davis noted in his affidavit that he had actually driven past Mader riding the stolen bicycle on S.H. 33 when Davis was on his way to report for work at the sheriff’s office, according to the affidavit.
Mader was still inside the Purvis home when deputies arrived at the scene. He was ordered out and arrested and told deputies he was the only person inside, although the homeowners continued to insist they saw more than one person on the video feed, according to the affidavit.
No other individuals were found in a subsequent search of the home.
Mader apparently entered the residence by breaking the glass in a door, according to the affidavit.
Deputies found a 1995 Ford pickup truck with a passenger side door open and a box of boots on the front seat.
A 2017 Ford F350 pickup truck was parked on the east side of the residence with a pistol in the front seat.
A red bicycle also was on the east side of the building and inside the building deputies found frozen meat and keys on the kitchen counter and a bottle of wine on an end table in the living room, according to the affidavit.
Mader told deputies he had broken into a neighboring house where he stole the gun and the bicycle.
Mader said the other house had a windmill and a sign that said “Oliver Farms.”
The house was later determined to be located at 29313 State Highway 33 and also was unoccupied at the time of the break in.
Deputies later were contacted by the owner, William Oliver, who was not at home at the time of the break in, according to the affidavit.
At the Oliver residence, deupties found a John Deere tractor north of the house that Mader allegedly said he had driven around the property and then entered a window on the north side of the house.
Deputies found a shotgun leaned up against the doorway of an outbuilding and an expended shell casing nearby.
Mader told officers he’d taken the shotgun and fired it. A lockable gun cabinet that appeared to have been forced open was found inside a walk-in closet, according to the affidavit.
Mader told deputies he had been “walking home” when he allegedly committed the crimes and that he was just going to drink the bottle of wine in the Purvis home and leave in the morning.
According to a supplemental court filing, Mader was convicted March 9 on another second-degree burglary charge in Osage County.
