United meeting: Craft beer vendors will be included this year at Hennessey’s Wine & Chocolate Festival

Ordering 1,000 more wine glasses and allowing craft beer vendors at this year’s Wine & Chocolate Festival were at the top of discussion list at the Thursday, Aug. 15, meeting of the Hennessey United board.

The festival is Saturday, Oct. 15, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Memorial Park and Chairman Dagan Hardin said he is “shooting” to get 15 wineries this year.

It was also decided that craft beer vendors will be allowed this year and Hardin stressed that all vendors must sign up in advance.

40 Martyrs Cigars

A few days after the meeting, Hardin texted board members that 40 Martyrs Cigars had agreed to have their signature stand at Hennessey festival this year.

Vendor Info

United provides each vendor with a table and doesn’t charge wine and chocolate vendors a fee and all vendors are required to have free samples for festival- goers.

However, the board voted that vendors who do not have wine, beer or chocolate will be charged an advance fee of $45.

Hardin stressed that all vendors must sign up in advance:

• Chocolate Chairman is Kim Gritz (580-628-0198 leave number or text only, and she will get back to you).

• Wine-Beer Chairman Dagan Hardin (405-8530191 or ddwodrum@yahoo. com).

Unscheduled Election

Scott Hajek was elected president, and Renee (Vaverka) Curry was elected vice president at this month’s meeting.

The unscheduled election was due to an earlier meeting when three-term president Stacy Cline and vice president Teresa Oliver had submitted their resignations about four months ago.

There was not a quorum at the board’s April meeting and, as usual, there were no board meetings in May, June and July.

Two New Members

The board unanimously elected Tracie Macy and Angela Bruner as new board members.

Both were at the meeting.

Mitchell Resignation

After last week’s meeting was adjourned, members received a letter of resignation from board member Kaden Mitchell.

He also wrote that he wanted to help when possible.

Mitchell became a United board member when he was a high school junior. He graduated from Oklahoma State University in May and is now pursuing a law degree.

At the Meeting

This month’s meeting was held at the PSC Building on Mitchell Road due to another meeting at Vernost Wine Co.

All four officers were present: Hajek, Curry, Treasurer Tammy Hopkins and Secretary Cathy Howard; and members Mayor Harold Shaw, (student) Brooklyn Harris, Barb Walter, Macy and Bruner.

Absent was Kim Gritz. Next month’s meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 19, at Vernost.
