Walter wins OPA award

By

Times & Free Press contributor Barb Walter recently won the Oklahoma Press Association’s column-writing contest with her column entitled “It was time,” published in November in this newspaper.

Sponsored by Oklahoma Natural Gas, the contest recognizes the top column and editorial published in state newspapers each month.

Walter, a member of the Oklahoma Journalism Hall of Fame and former editor and publisher of the Hennessey Clipper, was a frequent winner of the monthly contest with her “Couldn’t Help But Notice” column published in the Clipper.

She received a $100 cash prize from ONG for her winning column, which also was published in the January issue of Oklahoma Publisher, the OPA’s industry newspaper.

“We’re happy to have a journalist of Barb’s caliber writing for us,” KT&FP Publisher Barry Reid said. “In addition to her entertaining columns, she does an excellent job keeping our readers informed about Hennessey news and events.”
